Choose Your Own Adventure…with a Golden Shovel

This week Ms Caplan’s class continued working on their golden shovels. In Ms. Murray’s class we tried something a little different. Students did a quick free write exercise and then picked a line they loved from what they wrote. That line was written on a blank sheet of paper, and then passed around at their tables a few times. This then became the jumping off point for whatever kind of poem students wanted to write. They could discard it and work on their own idea, or rework the line in their own way. There was no prompt, no brainstorming, and no exercise like the ones we usually do every week. Instead these seasoned poets got to choose their own poetic adventure. Enjoy this week’s pieces!

So never fear lovely people, love comes again,

Jayleen

When you are so

scared of something never

be afraid or fear

the thing because lovely

things come to all people

so don’t fear love

always finds it’s way or comes

to you all over again

Me Myself and I, Is What I Say All the Time

Mayte

My brother is just like me

funny and strong like myself

he is older, I am younger, and

we argue all the time. I

mean we can be mean to each other. Is

that what siblings do? Yes, but so what!

Every sibling fights. But I,

will always be there for him, once in a while I say

mean things, but I’ll always care about him. All

these memories we have together, the

memories we might not experience for a long time.

Para el Amigo Sincero, Cultivo Una Rosa Blanca

Isabella

Translation

People use words

to express their feelings to the

beloved of their heart. A friend

prefers to watch rather than speak — he is sincere.

He sees that everything they did for the cultivation

of love in their friendship ends because of

a single person he met. It’s like a rose

that burns souls from within, even if it is only white.

Maybe in another universe I would wake

up to a brother kicking me, to wake

me up. Maybe I would have straight

hair and dress differently.

Maybe, I would live in a different

country, and be familiar with a

different room. Maybe my favorite

song would annoy me ,and I’d turn

it down all the way, or maybe I

would say things I’ve never

dreamt of saying before.

Or maybe I’d be the exact

same.

When God is with me I can

do anything.

I can swim.

I can ride a bike.

I can ride a skateboard.

I can draw.

I can drive.

I can skydive.

If I just put my

mind to it.
