Back to the Future…

The poets from Latino Youth High School were asked to imagine their older selves visiting them from 10 years in the future. What would their future self say? Enjoy!

See you soon.

You’re still awake huh? Don’t worry, you’ll fix that eventually. These quiet nights by your lonesome won’t last forever. You’re probably wondering why I look like you or why I’m in your room… well our room. I don’t know what I’d say coming here but after seeing you I think I know. You’re lost right now… Growing up is overwhelming you can’t tell your left from your right, left behind by time. Never knowing if what you’re doing is right. It’s hard trust me I’ve been there you’ll figure it out. Yeah, the days keep coming but you’re right there with them. The only thing left behind is our past. It’s never too late to start and you will.

Where are you at? Are you happy? Does everything change around you? Who are you with? Always remember to stay humble and never settle for less, you aren’t exactly going to remember this moment but hopefully you do. Be aware of life and how it works, whenever you aren’t feeling like yourself remember that deep inside you, you need to lift yourself up and keep it moving. If you fall, fall forward, and hopefully if you do stay focused and do things right, you get where you want to be. A businessman, an entrepreneur, a real estate agent, this is your younger self trying to figure things out. Just lose yourself along the way through all your challenges, never forget where you came from no matter what you are doing right now. It is good to get where we want to be, just also remember that it’s better learning new and different things.

Hey little you, just know that you accomplished your goals and have reached them. you got the job you wanted, it wasn’t easy at all but you did it. You married the girl of your dreams and now live in Austin, Texas. You have worked so hard to accomplish that goal of becoming a EMT, the job isn’t easy so be prepared mentally and physically too. You and the girl you are with right now are still together, you got married and have two goldendoodle dogs. It’s crazy I know but bear with me, dad came around to you being gay after mom passed away and he also moved to Texas too just to be closer to you. You still play guitar so keep that up, you are way better at it now. Keep your goals in mind Ashley, remember that you can do it if you put your mind to it 🙂
