‘Because art is for everyone to see’

This week we looked at Yannis Ritsos’ poem, Because. We talked about the short form of poetry and the Volta: the place in a poem where it takes a ‘turn of thought or augment.’ We also flipped through dictionaries to include new language in our poem.

Lesson Note: Poet, Kaveh Akbar, recalls a peer saying that every poem is a Sonnet… if we focus on the volta. Food for thought.

Hence that fact Fenty highlight is life.
Hence the fact that my eye bags are darker than a night without starts.
Hence the fact that my blackheads are more noticeable than a comet.
However, I love my skin.
However, I am not insecure.
Confidence is key.

I thought, the sky would forever be clear and brilliant
I thought, I could be gallant and overcome my matters
I thought, God, will always guard me
I thought, I could decide my true love deliberately
I thought, you will release me to your world.
But instead, I let you cease my existence.
