We read Pablo Neruda’s “Ode to My Socks” today. We watched a video that represented all the different similes and we loved talking about how fun and strange they all are! The students had the great observation that the similes were mostly of living things–which made it feel like the socks were really alive!
Shiny Jewelry
--Sosan
My cousin
gave me a
present but not just
any present
an extraordinary
present that looks
like shiny fish
making lots
of lines smelling
like swirly pasta
with different
colors feeling
like bumpy hills
with lots of roads
and cars. An extraordinary
necklace is always a service.
A Special Gift
--Inas
When my sister gave me
that drawing
and I looked at it
I felt happy. It looked like
fireworks or a pool full of color.
I know she worked hard on it
so it is special and I felt
great.
