The Space We Grow Into
May 25 – June 16, 2018

Curated by Adia Sykes

The Space We Grow Into explores the connections that women of color cultivate with those around them and the self-care that is necessary to our well-being. It is a celebration of sisterhood, spirituality, individuality, and an uncompromising commitment to finding and holding onto the beauty that exists in this world should we keep our eyes open to it.

Featuring the works of Catalina Bellizzi, Shenequa, and Ariana Vaeth, whose practices span painting, weaving, sound, and video consider themes of connection, care, friendship, and intimacy.

CHICAGO DANZTHEATRE ENSEMBLE (CDE) is dedicated to performance with a purpose, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble challenges, engages and inspires audiences both onstage and in the classroom, through innovative, multidisciplinary storytelling in the genre of Tanztheatre, “which unites all art media and to achieve an all-embracing, radical change in humankind.” As an Ensemble, we collaboratively create thought-provoking arts performances and educational outreach programs incorporating elements of theatre, music, movement, visual arts and literary text.

CHICAGO POETRY CENTER (CPC) has been a cultural institution for over forty years, partnering throughout its history with the Museum of Contemporary Art, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Poetry Foundation. Our mission is to promote poetry in the Chicago community, and we do that through public readings featuring emerging and established writers, paid teaching opportunities to Chicago poets, and our flagship program: Hands On Stanzas, providing creative literacy to Chicago Public Schools, often via scholarship.
