CALL FOR POETS & DANCERS: Join Body Passages in 2018!

Body Passages is a poetry and dance incubator that provides workshops and performances that center around the intersectionality between these media. Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble (CDE) and Poetry Center of Chicago (PCC) pair professional dancers and poets to create their own artist-led projects fusing language and movement. Paired artists participate in on-going conversations and exchanges with other pairs.

Artists explore fluidity, form, and rhythm as they relate to a variety of topics. In 2017, we launched the series in April with a poetry and dance workshop led by award-winning poet Ana Castillo, CK Kubasta, and CDE Ensemble members Sara Maslanka and Scott Dare. We had two performances in August featuring four groups of poets and dancers presenting original work at Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble and Uncommon Ground.

In 2018, we would like to continue our sustained collaboration with the theme of “activation” in mind. We are seeking artists who are willing to lead workshops, perform with other artists, and participate in monthly craft talks with the group. The commitment involves monthly meetings, content deadlines, contributing to one workshop, and 2-3 performances which includes rehearsals.
