Interactive assemblies and generative writing workshops feature performance poets and powerful themes, including our popular Black History Month assembly and various social justice assemblies.
Engage the curiosity of a large group of students with our lively assemblies, or ignite the creativity of a single classroom with a poetry writing workshop.
In our assemblies, poets perform original works, provide educational information about Chicago’s history of slam poetry, and play an interactive poetry slam-style game with the audience. We welcome questions from students and teachers during the poet Q&A session.
In our workshops, a Poet in Residence reads and discusses a poem with students, then students write and share original poetry. Every participant has the opportunity to complete the workshop with a brand new poem.
Looking for a way to celebrate National Poetry Month? Or to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, or Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month? Our Poets in Residence can share poems by contemporary and legacy authors as we tailor the theme of our assemblies and workshops to suit the needs of each school.
Can’t decide between an assembly or workshop? Discounts are available for multiple bookings.
