Working Together

Last week Swift 2nd graders had hybrid learning, with some students working from home while others worked in the classroom. We read a selection of poems aloud and discussed them, finally settling into writing collaborative poems for our 19th visit.

Rainbow Poem

Green is refreshing like a cool drink
It is calm as a warm blanket in spring
Avocados are green and the taste of sour apples
And green lights telling you to start the engine and GO!

Magenta is comforting like taking a nap
It can be love like Valentines Day,
The eye color of a robot,
or the color of spring when flowers bloom with a soft popping sound

Maroon smells like fall, pumpkin spice and sauce
It is a blood moon
And sounds like crunchy and crackling leaves
It is the taste of a brand new cinnamon day

Black is a dark night,
yummy oreos in your mouth,
the stripes of a zebra,
Or a black panther feasting on licorice

Violet makes you feel excited,
or elastic
Very vivid violet very sweet
It is the feeling you have when you get a compliment

Poetry Is....

music to my heart
poetry is fun
poetry is rhyming like “sky” and “by”

poetry sounds like birds chirping in a tree
or like water drops falling
or a soft voice going word after word
poetry smells like sunflowers growing in a green field

poetry is a magical cookie that faints when you play video games

poetry flies fast in the sky to New York,
California, and even Jupiter
