“Winter Fun Stuff”

Our 2nd sessions this year coincided with International Assembly Day at Swift! So many students were participating in cultural performances including dances, songs, and fashion presentations. There was a lot going on, but we still managed to consider wintry things, before reading and discussing Nikki Giovanni’s “Winter Poem.” We then worked collaboratively to brainstorm ideas and make poems. Cheers!

The magic of winter
My red cheeks and shivering
in my body

It is because the snow is cold
and freezing

we can build a snowman
and drink hot cocoa

me gusta comar mi
chocolate en la casa
we can drink hot cocoa
by a fire
with a blanket wrapped around us
and fall asleep
after playing in the snow

Ms. Pendola 2nd Grade

Class

When I close my eyes
I see winter things like white snow
and dirty snow
I wear all of my snow gear
and the snow is hard
perfect for making snowballs

When I close my eyes
I remember winter smells like warm cocoa
If your house has a chimney
you can have a fire in the fireplace
(but don’t let it burn Santa!)

Sometimes it is too cold to play outside
houses freeze, lakes and ponds freeze
the ground freezes

Melt it with fire
or hot water

Snow, Snow, Ice Class

If I was a snowman
people would build me

I slip and I slide and I
enjoy the snow

Ice skating is like sliding
very fast

I slip and I slide wildly like
an animal in the zoo

Winter is when radiators come on
It makes a sound like mmmmm
It hisses and makes me feel hot
burning like fire
in an oven

Ms. Reed 3rd Grade

Class

Winter time is when we drink
hot stuff
we can open presents on Christmas
we can drink hot cocoa with
Christmas tree marshmallows
get cozied-up and watch Christmas movies
when it’s cold
getting computer games updated so
you can have more fun

decorating Christmas trees
makes us feel happy, festive, fun, joyful,
like to make Christmas cookies
and gingerbread
smells good fresh out of the oven
