“When will it be my turn to control time?”

Today Brennemann 2nd graders talked about what it means to be curious: to be interested in learning what we don’t know and wanting to understand how things work and why things and people are the way they are. Students didn’t really believe me when I told them that poets’ ideas for poems often begin with not knowing, but being curious. We looked at some questions from Pablo Neruda’s Book of Questions, and students persisted in trying to come up with answers to questions such as: “do unshed tears wait in little lakes?” (no, they sit in your stomach) and “how did the abandoned bicycle find its freedom?” (someone got on it and rode away). At any rate, we had fun coming up with our own questions and expanding on those questions with even more questions!
