What is art?

At Haugan Elementary this week, we studied the Dada art movement. We talked about how the Dada art movement, focused on randomness and absurdity, came out of a period of intense trauma and discussed the ways that we related to their artistic viewpoint. We looked at some Dada art and poetry, and discussed whether or not we thought it counted as art and poetry (we were very divided!). Then, we made some Dada collage poetry by cutting out and mixing up random words and pictures. We all agreed that whether or not we thought Dada was art, it feels good during tiring times to be a little silly!
