What do you hear?

What sounds do you hear at home, outdoors, at school, or at work? Are the sounds happy? Exciting? Surprising, or Sad? This is what Swift 2nd graders were exploring the last time we got together. Before coming up with their own poems, students brainstormed a list of sounds they often hear Bong! Clang! Crash! and zzzzzzzz made the list, as did songs, and sounds of blenders, violins, birds chirping, leaves rustling, babies crying, and grease sizzling. What sounds would you add to this list?

Akshara S.'s sound poem

Samuel K.

I hear knocking
and honking . And wind
in the air. Rain from
a drain and a train
going on track. Tapping,
and flapping birds.

Valentina V.

I hear talking at school
it’s loud
I want them to be quiet.
I hear singing lalaalaaalaaaa
it is quiet, I like singing
I hear cars at school
brrmm brrmm, it is loud.

Ms Amato 2nd Grade

Shishir K.

I hear reading I hear
tapping on the desks
I hear talking everywhere
trucks rumbling dogs barking
students whining speakers in
classrooms and halls.

Sophia's Poem Sophia H.

Trees howling outside
in cool weather.
cars go room! room!
on the street.
buses go beep! beep! on the streets.
