‘To fight the night become the light. ‘: Odes

Students read ‘Ode To My Shoes’ by Francisco X. Alacron before penning their own odes. Below are some of their wonderful poems.

Lesson Note: “Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”– Kurt Vonnegut

Secret Life of Shoes Maliyah W.

I love my shoes, they are funny looking, but I don’t mind.

They’re comfortable, and they’re
Fuzzy, but if you treat them wrong, they
turn dirty. I have lots of shoes, probably
too much. My shoes have all different
colors and designs. One looks ugly, and one
looks nice. I have so many I can’t even
count, but when I think about it, I’m
kinda proud.

Almost everyday
they
step on each other
with

practice step

At the end
of the
day
both my
right and left
shoes
are tired and
exhausted of the
day they
completed

waiting for tomorrow’s walk.

Ode To My Shoes Jeremiah

My shoes spin around and play all day. They jump and bump
and continue to be great. They move and groove.
They turn and tooze they write at night and continue
to fight. They fly bikes and fly kites, and they’re always
right. To fight the night become the light.

Ode To My Shoes Armancy

My shoes wake
up and dance
around

They turn and
bum all around

wide awake
they go outside
and get fresh air
to start the vibe

during the day
they walk around
with a shine
bright smile.

The Things on My Feet Chanei

I have shoes on my feet that are as comfy
as a bed. They get exhausted from exploring
the world. They fit like a glove. And they are
all different. They rest after long days.
They last long. I love my shoes

the things on my feet.
