The People Who Made Us: The Idea of Ancestry

Today we read The Idea of Ancestry by Etheridge Knight. We had an amazing discussion about family, both biological and chosen. We talked about the stories that get handed down to us, who we might look like, what traditions, customs and names get passed down through a family. But forty-five minutes is just never time enough to fit in a juicy discussion and still have enough time left to write a poem. We’ll be posting more pieces that the young women of Simpson are working on in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
