‘I’ll start’: Star Poems

Students read Choose Something Like A Star by Robert Frost and listened to a choral arrangement of the same poem, before trying their hands at their own poems addressing something… bigger than themselves.

Lesson Note: “We are chemically connected to all molecules on Earth. And we are atomically connected to all atoms in the universe. We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.”-Astrophysicist, Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Don't Know

Once I asked a star, “What’s your favorite color”
They said, “I don’t know. All I see is black”
“Oh”
Next I asked, “Do you like pizza?”
They said, ” I don’t know. I’ve never had it.”
“Oh”

Next I asked, “What’s it like to be constantly exploding?”
They said, ” I don’t know. I’ve never known anything else.”
“Oh”

Next I asked, “Have you seen any planets I could claim?”
They said, ” I don’t know. I’m just a lone star.”
“Oh”

Star, I Hope You Can Here Me

You star,
How are you?
Shinning, sizzling, burning
High
Above us.

During the dark night
You shin a bright light
Above us.
Is it dark for you?
Is it is light?
Or Bright?

O star
An angel above us.

You fold up yourself
When the Sun jumps up from the horizon.
No longer a blanket over us.
Where do you go?
I miss you star.
I hope I will see you again,
When the Sun drifts off to sleep below the horizon.

Star,
Are you lonely?
Are you sad?
Are you happy?
What do you do?

Star,
Can you hear me?
I hope you can hear me.

Star

Are other stars mirrors to you?
Have you seen angels?
You have seen light and dark
Many like you
Or not
Do the wishes come true?
We wish for good lives when you pass
We depend on you
Just you
A star.

Floating Star

Roaming around in the sky like a bright light,
We never get to talk to you
Neither do you
What would you ask if you could?

I’ll start
What do you do?
What do you like?
If you had the choice of being a human would you take it?
Do you like being a star?
Would you want to be anything else?

Untitled

On A summer day,
with Wildfires burning with smoke in the air,
I cook burgers which are sizzling,
Dark smoke slowly coming from the woods miles away,
I got inside, put light condiments on the burger.
I fold the lettuce so it cracks,
I take a bite
Like an angle made it,
An old blanket in the alley,
It is wet as last time,
I go to bed,
Put a blanket on me,
I there go sleep.

So you’re a star, how does it feel?

Happy and sad how does it feel to be a star?

Do stars eat, do you drink?

How do stars have fun?

Can stars hear humans?

Can stars see humans?

What can stars do?

Are they nice are they mean?

Can stars feel?

Can stars live?
