Sit Back, Relax, & Write

Sometimes its hard to be a poet when life is lifing. Earlier this month, our poetry club opted to take it easy and free write instead of our usual themed prompts. Check out a poem from one of our students below:

A Walking Deadpan Sky S.

As the wind takes its own route
I wish to be like that, for my thoughts to die out
To lay in silence and be nothing more than
A walking deadpan
Because being full of words and expression
Will only give people the impression
That I’ll let them step over me without question
Like roaming a field full of beautiful roses
Not realizing you were stomping on them right under our noses
I want to clear my mind like a freshly cleaned room
But its safe to assume that some dust you just can’t broom
I’ve been stuffed with the curse of overthinking
Like the titanic ship cursed with sinking
I am like that, drowning in fake realities of what could be
I wish to be as smooth and calm as the sea
But that is simply not true
Fore even the sea has icebergs to pass through
As the wind takes its own route
I wish to be a cloud in the sky without doubt
