Simile + Ode’s

This week at Dever Elementary school 7th grade wrapped up our two part metaphor series. We got reintroduced to Ode’s, this time reading Ode to Kool Aid by Marcus Jackson. We formally learned a poetic device many students were familiar with; simile. Below is part one of similes with some metaphor poems students turned in.

Ode to Potatoes Daniella C.

You are like art, you can turn the single material
into many different things.
you like the mood of many with just a mention
you’re aroma lures me back into the kitchen
You’ve become connected to many different cultures
You’re so simple yet you can transform into a great delicacy.

Ode to Basketballs Layla C.

you get picked up
and stuffed into a bag
A random man squeezed me as if I were a baby
off we went to the backyard daily.

Bounce
Bounce
Bounce

This man did everything I feared
He pushed me to the ground
while I bounced back up like a spring
I realized my purpose, to do this thing
play ball, basketball, how adoring
until pop!

I went as flat as the floor
The there I went out the door.

My Best Friend Lena P.

My best friend
her eyes sparkle like diamonds
They are as green as a forest
Her hair is so free
As free as a bird
Her smile brings me joy
I am as happy as a kid getting a toy

Oh, my best friend
We love to hangout
It’s as fun as it is to shout
She always makes me laugh
She’s as funny as a giraffe
I come her very much
I hope we always keep in touch

untitled Nathaniel C.

You are as calm as a cloud you make me relaxed
when you are calm.
You are as beautiful as a rose,
you’re as perfect as flowers. you’re like a sun
because you light up my world. When stuff goes wrong you are calm and keep a happy smile you
light up my world and make me happy. hope you have a great day.

This is to someone special to me/someone I like

Sherfinski's Class

Metaphor Poem Emely R.

flying through clouds
Looking at the pretty sky
No sounds, no noice, just you.
Having time by yourself with no one
Looking down and seeing people
Being happy and being yourself
Just looking down and up and having
FREEDOM!

Unititled Ella G.

I was stuck on a problem.
it was unclear. It took me a to a swamp.
being stuck where I can’t see clearly
I can’t go forward.
I can’t go backwards.
stuck with my thoughts
until the fog arose
