Silky Similes

One of the most used literary devices in poetry are similes. One of the topics most written about is love! This week the poets explored both. Poets wrote similes about their secret love. They were encouraged to compare their secret love to things that are beautiful.

The prompt even had staff members from the Evening Reporting Center dedicating poems to their secret loves.

Enjoy!

Untitled by Diego L.

Her lips are so soft
Like the blanket on her bed

She smells like a dozen of roses
That just got picked out

Her smile twinkles like diamonds
Her eyes shine bright
Like a star at night

Her presence makes me feel
Like I have a thousand butterflies

Untitled by ERC Staff

You’re as Beautiful as a butterfly
eyes are as captivating as the sea
Your heart is Warm as a sunrise
Your love is as Powerful as a sting from a bee
Smile is as bright as a star in a very dark sky
Like a fisherman…You’ve captured me

Untitled by Rochelle C.

You are as beautiful as a flower

Your eyes are green like the Chicago downtown river on St. Patrick’s Day

Your love is like a mother bird keeping her eggs warm on a cold, cold day

And you can’t be touched like a museum display
