Show Not Tell

In week three at Dever Elementary school we focused on description. We talked about our favorite smells, textures and foods. Students did a wonderful job of focusing on an interest and showing the reader how they feel through description.

I love bacon. I see people eating bacon
I taste bacon. I smell bacon. I touch bacon. I smell bacon. When I wake up I smell the nice scented, juicy bacon so I go straight downstairs to eat the nice, sweet, juicy bacon. I would never get tired of the nice small of bacon.

untitled Alejandra A.

I see red square blocks
shiny and dicey on a plate
slimy juicy redness
sliding on my plate
I taste juicy watermelon
melting in my mouth
soft crunches
of a knife chopping watermelon
fresh chopped up watermelon
sourness in my mouth
I love the way it tastes
with lime and tajin
it melts in my mouth
