Running into a New Year (5th)

In 5th grade, we read “Running into a New Year” by Lucille Clifton. We discussed how her lack of punctuation and short lines and single stanza gives us a sense of movement and speed. We brainstormed ways that we could use the page to create other feelings.

Read and Read

trying not to stop

eyes glued on the paper

No pausing
Information filling my mind.
I get drifted into the new year

and I don’t know how it happened.

Lightness Year Marcos

I’m dreaming into the new year
seeing all the light
than rather the shadow
Eating my nerves fight
Corssing-Running
Seeing all the hopes and
Running with them
and the light door
in front of me
then enter the new year
excited and
remembering all the moments
all the lightness in my heart.

Gaming Grind MJ

I am gaming into a new year
Playing as time passes
by all the old game fades
as the new year comes
I play
and play until
My fingers droop
losing track
of time I play
play play
finger non-stop
moving place to place
charging non-stop
until I explode
turning into a fire
work bursting in the
night.
