Reality is like a game with big choices…

What do an elephant and a mouse have in common? What dessert do your eyes look like? For this week’s session we talked about comparisons and how contrasting different things can help our writing come alive and add a whimsical spin to it. Students worked on a brainstorm where they compared two different things and thought about the similarities. It could be size, color, shape, or the way they move. Suddenly a fan became a tornado, and hair became curly fries. Students then came up with their own ideas of things to compare and worked on creating poems. There were so many amazing pieces, and beautiful images and metaphors that they came up with. Enjoy this week’s poets!

My Smile Damian Martinez

My smile
is bright like
the sun
Trees are like
broccoli, it’s green
and trees are green.
Shoes are like
squares, shoes look
like squares
My eyes are
like ice cream
my eyes are brown
The sun is
like a yellow book. The sun
is bright.
Ice-cream is
like clouds are.
White like vanilla
Ice-cream.

My Poem Mason

A smile is like when you get a sticker and you see it.
Trees are like broccoli.
Shoes are like books.
Clouds are like ice cream.
My fingers are like popsicle sticks.
My eyes are like oompa loompas.
Bracelets are like snakes.
Colors are like a rainbow.

My Poem Ilias N.

My sadness is like a boy who lost his ice cream.
My sister is like a screaming mountain goat.
My room always looks like a tornado just hit it.
My mom is like a blooming flower.
My eyes are like two round chocolate cakes.
My dad is like a living calculator.
