Poetry After School | I Spy…
We played a game during after school poetry to help us practice thinking about, and communicating, details. Have you heard of, I Spy? This game asks one person to describe an object they see (that everyone else can see too); and without naming the object, one has to describe to color, the size, the shape, the texture, the flavor or smell if necessary and even what the object can be used for or where it can be found. Then, everyone guesses what has been described until they guess correctly.
I Spy, is a great way to practice using description and detail, two important and necessary tools in poetry.
After playing, I Spy, we wrote poems in this format…can you guess what each poet is describing in their poems below??
My Plush Animal
By Logan M.
It’s white and cute
and plush and small.
You can find it in my house.
Not a human but a species of animal that you can hug and play with.

The Hard to Find Fidget
By Ziya V.
It’s a square and it’s hard to find.
But if you look for it you can find it at Five Below.
The sound it makes is a pop; it pops and it’s really popular.
