Poem Remix

Howdy, readers! We’re entering our last few sessions together as Hale’s 6-8th grade poetry club. On Tuesday, we did some editing work together. Students chose to either remix their poems by swapping line orders or work with a peer to edit together. Wednesday was a chance for students to free write new poems to present at our Thursday open mic. Read below for a poem I’m sure many of us can relate to.

Forget and Forgive Miley L.

It starts out small,

forgetting a pen for class.

Then you forget your paper

you needed so bad.

Then it becomes bigger,

like forgetting to brush your

teeth in the morning. Or forgetting

to pack your lunch. Then it’s even bigger,

like forgetting to give someone the gift you

got them for their birthday. Then

it’s even bigger like forgetting that your

friend or family is mad at you then

you talk to them like its nothing. But then

you apologize so much and they always

decide to forgive, and soon they forget.

I guess that’s just how life goes, you

forget and forgive.
