Afterschool Poetry Program

Untitled by Mayra M.

In the summer
When I was waiting for Mom to get back home from work
The Sun was beaming in my eyes
And the air was ever so soothing and sweet

Untitled by Jose M.

The elote man ringing his bell for all of us hear, as we cheer for the el sonido mientras disfrutamos de la cayes con los amigos thinking how can anything be this good what sorcery has this wizard casted upon thee

Untitled by Ashley L.

It’s walking down the streets
Watching the kids run to the ice cream truck
It’s the grass being green but not on the other side
It’s the grass being green here, in our community
It’s the smell of carne asada
The music blasting
It’s the pure pride of our roots

The cookouts and get-togethers
It’s being with family
Cracking a cold one with the primos
It’s staying up late on summer nights

It’s dancing until the sunrise
It’s sense of family that’s makes community
