One Day It Could Be You

This week MLK Academy 6th, 7th, and 8th students explored the issue of homelessness in our society. Students discussed how natural disasters, illnesses, low wages, and job loss can lead to homelessness. To find solutions, students read the poem “They Are Out In The Streets,” by Justin S. a sixth grade student from Peterson Elementary. In his poem Justin S. mentions the dangers that people face when living on the streets, They might get caught in a storm/in a shooting/ they might even get caught in a robbery. Justin S. directly shares with his readers ways they can help by donating money and food, as well as job application assistance.

Inspired by Justin S. students created poems that express how they view homelessness and ways their communities can come together to end this problem.

Needs of the Homeless Stephon

Homeless people need food.
Homeless people need water.
Homeless people need clothing.
Homeless people need shelter.
Homeless people need shelter.
Homeless people need showers.
Homeless people need beds.
Homeless people need jobs.

Homelessness Is A Problem London

Homelessness is a problem
and we as a community
need to stop it by donating
to homeless shelters
and giving food to homeless
people and giving them water
cause imagine if it was you
getting ignored by other people
while needing money
cause there is a possibility
that one day it could be you
