Of What Are We Afraid

For our second to last week, the students at Sayre focused on writing poems with metaphor about their fears–physical and abstract.

Ms. Hernandez 7th Grade

Untitled Lupita C.

Bee is a yellow stinger.
Snake is long fanged.

I’m afraid of bees because
they sting. It’s a shooting pain.

Death Jake T.

Who knows what’s on the other side?
A black void.
A shiny place called heaven.
Waking up?

Who knows how you will die?
Stabbed by someone.
Burned in a fire.
Snapped out of reality?

Who knows when you can die?
Tomorrow.
A week.
Today?

Fears Aaliyah M.

Rollercoaster
track of horror screams

centipedes
weird bug
with trillions of legs

Elevator
if not running properly
dropping quickly back down

Weapons
threatening item
a life to be taken away

Poisoning
weird feeling
cause of dizzyness
and death

Fear Cora Q.

Death is a big dark hole that never stops
Burned alive is a victim of murder
Seaweed is an ugly big blobfish
A shark is a big submarine coming to kill
A spiders is a big dark thing that climbs on you in your sleep.

Deep Trauma Kyle S.

Fear is being scared, afraid, worried
of the dangers in your society–
death, gun violence.
