No Fear Shakespeare!

A brave group of 8th Graders tackled our old friend Bill Shakespeare with gusto over the past two weeks. Class discussions involved: The Is it Shakespeare of is it Rap? Game, Elizabethan culture, Lin Manuel Miranda and his story of his beat boxing school bus driver, Shakespeare Star Wars, beats, iambic pentameter, Rhyming Couplets, Quatrains, The Shakespearean Sonnet 127 and video clips from New York Shakespeare Exchange’s The Sonnet Project. Whew! That’s a lot! And they came out like troopers. Here are some rhyming couplets and quatrains to illuminate you from Mrs. Nazimek’s 8th Grade classrooms. Enjoy!

Mrs. Nazimek 8th Grade, 1st Period

Couplet Aimee P.

I lie a wake all day and night to see
my phone to wait and see a text from thee

Mrs. Nazimek 8th Grade, 2nd Period

Couplet Antonio R.

I like to be happy not sad because
there is a taste of fun to be a buzz

Quatrain and Couplet Andrew R.

I want to feel you by my side and your
lips touch mine I want to feel our love
just grab me and you just opened a door
a bird of freedom of love–a dove

This love is great just me and you I wait
to hold and kiss you too but now we can’t

Mrs. Nazimek 8th Grade, 3rd Period

Baseball Gabriel Gonzales

When you step up to the plate to hit it
You get the urge to knock it out the park
When the pitcher winds up with his brown mit
The ball comes your way as you swing with mark

Contact is made as the ball goes real’ far
It goes so far that it hits a parked car

M. Typical Night Adrian W.

Sitting on a blanket that’s in wet grass
Hoping that my lunch time’ll come up soon
I’m watching random people come run past
It looks like my only friend is the moon
