New Words

Sometimes one session just isn’t enough to finish a poem. This week we read “Hecky Naw” by Jose Olivarez a poem about words and how they can represent parts of our identity. I had a great discussion with students about words they love to use, slang, local Chicago words, and words and phrases that become a part of our circle of friends. Stay tuned for these New Word Poems that Perez 7th and 8th graders are working hard on!
