New Word Poems

What is a word you love to say or that you identify with? If you could make up a word to describe a feeling you have what it be? This week our rockstar Clissold poets were so inspired by Jose Olivares’ poem “Hecky Naw”, that they created their own vibrant vocabulary of words they love, and some you only hear in Chicago.

7th Grade

Woo Wop Da Bam Brooke J.

Put the boy in some slacks

The draws gone show

Look at the back

diamonds gonna show

The big cross always gone show

In the alleyway

the graffiti gone show

Oh yea, me and foe n’em

finna woo wop da bam

Loud and proud

Not afraid of a crowd.

8th Grade

Phenove Cheyenne O.

Phenove

You never heard

It’s new

It’s because there’s no word

The feeling is oddly familiar

“I’m so loved, I want to die”

“So loved, I could fly”

There must be a better word for love

You’re phenoved by who you’re connected to

You’ll find it in your bedroom,

safe, comfortable, familiar, have a tone?

You see, but you can’t, it’s the energy

Physically, touch them, do it soon!

It’s overly extraordinary,

it’s not forever

You can’t afford this many

phenove it worth more than a penny

I'm Onnat Kai Ying B.

I’m onnat,

you can catch me on the corner

cuz I’m always gone be onnat.

Girl catch me in my bonnet cuz on onnat.

I’m trifling, ratchet and ghetto

cuz Im’ always onnat.

Call me,

Kiah, Rica, Nicah, and my cousin

when you onnat.

I’m anywhere and everywhere you go

cuz my name is onnat.

If you won’t fight me you not onnat.

Wanderlust Kurtis E.

Plenty of places

but I won’t stay long,

I just won’t stay still.

Too many places, too many tickets

my suitcase holds plenty

fast never slow,

I can give you

the run around the world.

Broken camera

never focus

Not the comfort of my home

I’m more free on the plane, expensive rollercoaster,

From Costa Rica to

the amazing U-S of A

horse back riding in Jamaica,

But can never stay stable

Just oh so amazing.
