“My cat is the ocean on a sunny day.” Metaphors and loved ones with South Loop Poetry Club

This week at South Loop Poetry Club, we read Francisco X. Alarcón’s “On Monday I Feel Like a Dragon.” Our young poets raced to see who could find the most similes and metaphors. Since we used similes to talk about ourselves last week, we decided to write poems with metaphors about our loved ones this week. Here are some of the works we made showing off our figurative language:

My cat is the ocean

on a sunny day

That Golden Brown Cheese Pizza Cole C.

I made pizza

It was delicious

I cooked 2 of them

That was large as a French baguette

And the cheese and crust

Was golden brown. I cut it to slices

I shared it with my family

The cheese tastes… Crunchy

It was perfection to be thinking.

That golden brown cheese pizza

Just as tasty as a bear eating honey.

My family is eating as fast as a pig

My family adored it

They love it

And me too.
