Move Your Hand Across The Page And/ ‘I hope for a better tomorrow’

Students got their hands moving across the page, a technique to get one writing without worrying about the outcome, before reading the poem, ‘Quiet Night Thought (s) ‘ by Li Po. They then crafted their own nighttime-themed poems. Enjoy some of those student-doddles below and then move on to their wonderful poems!

Lesson Note: “[Practice]…the act of moving the hand across the page and writing whatever comes to mind” – Julia Cameron, Author, The Artist Way.

Ms. Ruan 7th and 8th Grade

Night Poem Honghui M.

Looking at my pillow.
And listening to my favorite song.
Thinking about what will happen tomorrow.
And hoping the Coronavirus disappears soon.

Night Poem Minghao L.

I see my bed
And I hear a car beeping I think about myself
And I hope for a better future

Ms. Wright 8th Grade

Thinking Hopeful Abigail C.

Looking down at my blankets
I hear all my thoughts running
rapidly in my head

“What will I do tomorrow?”
My brain ponders as I slowly
Start to shut my eyes
I hope for a better tomorrow
no matter what I’ll do.

Untitled Brian H.

Before I go to bed I see the ceiling in the dark,
as I hear my mother on the phone,
I think about random stuff,
I just want peace and quiet.

Good Night Cecilia C.

I see books
hearing my family talk
“Did I finish my homework?”
I hope I will get good grades.

My Life At Night Matthew Y.

I look at the ceiling
Listening to myself breathe
Thinking about my day
Hoping for a good day the next day
