As our poetry residency for the school year draws to a close, enjoy these Recipe Poems by Shoesmith 4th graders!

Ms. Lehner 4th Grade - Group 1

How to be a Good Gymnast Khadijah D.

First, a tablespoon of flexibility
3 handfuls of arm and leg strength
14 cups of grace
6 pinches of positivity
4 pinches of attitude
At least 4-5 years of practice
blend it all together
Take a big sip and you will be
The Best Gymnast.

Recipe for How to get All A's Katherine J.

Get 1 cup of paying attention
Have 4 liters of studying
Get 10 tablespoons of patience
Get a handful of determination
Mix 2 pounds of getting work done
Have a can of care
Mash 4 ounces of bullies
Bake it up then drizzle
All A’s.

Recipe for a Bad Divorce Aayan A.

One handful of paper
1/2 cup of crying
two years of child support
a cup of alone in the corner
a pound of remembering
three months of singing the blues
five hundred years walking alone on the sidewalk
six ounces of waiting for your time to see your kids
a stir of yelling
finally, that’s the life of divorce

How to Get What you Want Jordana R.

First, ask for what you want
if that doesn’t work, try
3 cups of begging
a cup of crying
2 teaspoons of puppy dog eyes
add a dash of stomping
3 gallons of saying “I’ll do anything”
and a sprinkle of asking with “pretty please.”

Recipe for How to Make a Good TV Show Aliou K.

2 ounces of funniness
a teaspoon of sadness
a spoon of happiness
a stir of villains
a mix of heroes
a cup of drama
sprinkles of characters
a serving of action
Season with attention on your favorite character
100 tablespoons of audience
and finally, a pinch of plot twists

How to Be a Good Student Alaya L.W.

First, stir in some good grades
Then, combine in some good homework
to get a good taste.
Mix up some quietness and
hugging.
Add the good work and quietness
together.
Lastly, add some nice, motivational
notes and heat it up to 475 degrees
for 4 minutes.
Finally, you have a good student!

Recipe for School Subjects Jordan S.

First, you get 2 cups of math
then 2 teaspoons of literacy
Stir 1 hour of art,
gym, and science
bake a cake of math, literacy,
art, gym, and science
a sprinkle of end-of-the-day
plus a dash of lunch and recess

How to get Depressed Ashton P.

4 cups of tears
Get a bowl of heartbreak and 6 teaspoons
of failure
a big pot of fake smiles
1800 scoops of arguments
a dash of red eyes
add some bad days and stolen bikes
with a pinch of snot, and macaroni stuffed with guilt.
Add a big can of headaches
Take it out of the oven and add a little bit
of salt and trauma and shaky hands.
