Metaphor, Simile, Metaphor, Simile

We have been loving experimenting with metaphor and simile at Dever Elementary! We looked back through some of our favorite metaphors and similes from the year so far and wrote our own poems bursting with figurative language!

Ms. Carteno 6th Grade

Florida Manny

I am yellow as the brightest sunshine.
I am as fun as a curvy circle.
I am like a comfortable couch.
I am like a dog that sees another dog.
I am like a cat that sees cat food.
I see the BIG plam trees in the sunset.
I hear the loud sound of seagulls on the beach.
I wish I didn’t taste the cold
salty ocean water.
I see my cousins after not seeing
them for two years.

I feel David

I feel like a baby bird ready to fly.
I feel like a plant with several others
just like me. I feel like a warm blanket
laying down in a volcano that won’t burn me but warm me up.
I feel like a book that has been read over and over. I feel
like a fish free to swim wherever I wanna go to. I am like oil
and water mixed together. I feel like the sea that has endless knowledge.

My Shiny Chair Ben

My chair is like a shiny gift
from Allah. My chair is beautiful.
My chair is like having
a perfectly sharpened pencil. My chair
is like waking up on the
weekend.
