Making Sense

Sometimes young poets have a hard time using descriptive language in poems. After reading “Natures Way” by Heidi Campbell the poets studied the use of the 5 senses in the poem. Using the 5 senses is one easy way to use descriptive language in literature. The poets were asked to describe a scene in their life by only using the 5 senses. Enjoy!

I hear barking and meowing
We see the cats and dogs
I smell good shampoo from the dog and cat
My dog can taste a dog treat
I touch my dogs fur

Jordan’s feel tight
They smell like brand new shoes
They look cool
They can taste the floor
They sound like a basketball game

I hear the bag of chips ruffling
I see the bag of chips in the cart they smell like a hot summer day
They taste so crunchy
they feel so soft
I can hear the sound of the crunchiness while I eat them
