Love Poems

In Ms. Mild-Thomas’s class, we read Matthew Olzmann’s “Mountain Dew Commercial Disguised as a Love Poem” in class and loved the specificity and humor! Many of us said that being so specific about someone you love was a way to really see them! We drew pictures of people we love to try to think through as many specific details as we could and then wrote them poems modeled after Olzmann’s. Students shared some beautiful things about their loved ones! Here are a few of our love poems:

Ms. Mild-Thomas 6th Grade

To: My sister Luis

You’ve always been a troublemaker when you were in high school,
like one of those spoiled kids that misbehave everywhere.
Now, you’re so nice and fun to hang out with.
You make the funniest jokes,
And I even love watching you draw your art idea.
I know you may not be famous on the internet,
But at least you’re getting some attention for your art.
It will become famous soon.
And at least your friends are supporting you,
Even me.

Sister Abril

Here’s what i got reasons why i love being your
Sister you are the most amazing sister how you
Talk about some people being mean to you but,
So when you cry i tell you to stick up for yourself
And i comfort you don’t let people treat you like
You don’t matter because you do matter don’t let
People get to you are funny really gifted to i love
Your grades are so good to me you are the perfect
Sister. I love when you make me laugh when i am
Having a bad day or i am sad or crying thanks for
Being with me everyday you make me so happy
Don’t forget that I will always LOVE YOU!

Reason why I love you.. Maekayla

Here’s what I got!
Reasons why I am lucky to have you as my Grandma Because
You always put others before you like that one time you spent
Your last dime on getting takis just for school! I love that you
Always make sure I’m okay and I’m taken care of and okay.
I love that you always wake up every hour of the night just
To make sure we are okay!
I love that you don’t care how you look
You can have hair like a bird nest and still go out. I love how your
Not afraid to tell someone something It can be embarrassing at
Sometimes but I still love you for it! I love that you’re my grandma
