Hello again, dear reader. I’m back with a recap of last week’s session with our Carver students. Last week was a lovefest, featuring some moments of nostalgia from a new student and lots of shared poems from our returning students. We began the session with a quick warm-up to learn more about who was in the space and to move our bodies a bit. We watched Rudy Francisco’s “If I Was a Love Poet” and talked about all the figurative language students observed. Then, we watched Shihan’s “This Type Love” and noted all the different items and feelings love was compared to. After discussing our writing, one student revealed that several years ago, he’d been taught by poet-in-residence Joy Young and expressed his love for her teaching. It was a very tender moment, and we got to read his poem that was featured on the CPC blog. Finally, we wrote some love poems of our own. Check out one of them below:
I don’t know much about love
But I know it’s like a hurricane
that sweeps you off your feet.
Love is a dream that all can reach,
like a toddler having candy for the very first time.
Love is limitless like the galaxy above us.
Love is built on loyalty and trust, sometimes
it can even hurt us. I don’t know much about love
but I know it’s something we all deserve.
