Illustrated Poetry

During our 6th sessions, Swift students took turns reading – in both Spanish and English – the poem “Same Green Fate” by Francisco X. Alarcón. It begins: “let’s listen to/ the green voice of the rainforest…” We talked about the poem’s meaning and enjoyed the illustrations by Maya Christina Gonzalez. Then we visited the blog pages of student work published so far this year, so students could see their work in print and read aloud for their classmates. We snapped, clapped, and talked about our favorite lines. Students were then invited to create illustrations for one of their poems.
