If I were an animal…

In Ms. Sanchez’s 5th grade class, we read “How to Triumph like a Girl” and thought about the way the poet was able to show us new parts of her personality through the metaphor of a horse. The students thought about what animal would be a metaphor for the parts of them that not everyone sees.

The Spider's Way Gisele M

I prefer spiders the best.

Their beautiful webs made with creativity.

Wanting to be alone–sometimes.

The clever ways they have–waiting for their prey.

Spiders not as they seem–not dumb like flies.

Why they’re beautiful.

The Black Panther Carlos N

A black panther looks strong with its muscles and its chill because

it never runs all over the place and it has a big heart with blood.

It’s tough on the outside but a bit soft on the inside.

Blue Bird Miley A

I am a bird.

So clueless yet so smart.

I like how they seek shelter in

their nests as if they are flying

away from predators.

So free…just flying in the air all day.

Their feathers acting like a big fluffy blanket.

I wish I could fly.
