I am not who you think I am

In this lesson, written by Joy Young, poets were asked to write poems as if they were someone else, or something else, besides themselves. We analyzed and dissected the persona of poems. Enjoy!

A Day in The Life of A Cat by Leland L.

Sometimes if my owner makes me mad, I start to scratch

I love chasing the lazer as I run

My eyes gleam and glow like a lit match

Playing with my owner is so fun

Me and the other neighborhood animals love to meet

We all go back into our homes and eat

The Life of an Action Figure by Luis S.

When you were little you said I was the greatest and cool

Me and you would always have fun all day and play

You showed your friends how cool I am at school

Time passed you grew up and, like a vent, the dust turned me dirty and grey

I thought I would sit there and waiting as I lay

Then you took me out off the shelf and brought me to the new baby and I knew I would stay.

My cat by Alondra H.

Fluffy like the clouds

I am fit and well in health

My color is like the one of a cow

I can scratch my hand very well

I may meow sometimes

But that’s just part of the job at night

Last Living Dinosaur by Selena F.

I am very tall

Taller than most trees

Some of my friends aren’t as tall as me at all.

My friends and I are different breeds.

Other creatures fly around me just like birds

I lived very long ago and traveled in herds.

Cat by Melissa T.

I always feel sleepy and I always want to eat

I am fluffy and fuzzy

I sometimes feel fancy but also neat

Me and my friends stay inside and we like to be messy and crazy

We are always lazy

I repeat everything I do daily
