Hot Cocoa Days

Even though we wrote wintery poems as a group during our last session, many Swift 2nd graders wanted to try their hands at writing individual winter poems. Have you ever imagined yourself as a tree, or a snow owl in winter? Well, that’s exactly what some students did! And since hot cocoa is a favorite winter beverage, you may want to get cozy with your own cup to read these poems! See if you can spot some comparisons!

Quinn K.

In winter I become a
cat who likes to stay at home.
I stay by fireplaces.
I eat a lot of cat food.
I only come out in summer.

Snow Owl Fly Itzel D.

In winter I become
a snow owl. I fly all
the way to the sky.
I can see snow men
walking all the way.
I sing in the sky wooo
I’m blue in the sky
and white as the snow.

Life as Hot Cocoa Kai R.

When people drink me
They feel as hot as a heat blanket.
They don’t shiver. They feel
relaxed and preheated.

Winter Oriana L.

In the winter I go outside
my mittens keep me warm as I play in
the snow. I go inside. I drink hot cocoa.
The hot cocoa is as hot as the sun. When I
finish I go outside and play. The snow
is as cold as ice.

If I Was Snow Ryan J.

In winter I become snow.
people ball me up then
throw me at someone’s
face. Then my body splits
up and falls down
then the same stuff
happens again.

Winter Day Sweelson C.

In winter I make snowballs
in the snow. I make a dime
in the shine. I make a wall
that looks like a doll. I run
into a wall and then a cloud
bay was here to make green fresh
land to winter land!

A cup of hot cocoa Lucas V.

In winter I drink a
cup of hot cocoa.
It feels like a hot
tub in icy river in
the ocean. The clouds
cover up the sun
so the ice can’t melt.
A tree covered with snow.
A snowman with 3 exes.
People use warm mittens to
get a bit warm.

Snowcat on a Winter Night Sonya E.

I am a snow cat on a winter night
drinking hot cocoa and having a
snowball fight with friends for an hour.
In spring I melt into a river cat.

A Snowy Day Juan P.

In winter I want to climb
a snow mountain. It may
feel scary at the top and
at the top I want to
drink hot chocolate.

Winter Prashun M.

In winter I go sledding with
my sister and my friends.
I want to learn how to
ice skate. I wish to have
a giant of snow.
