Gratitude Poems

This week we read “Prayer” a beautiful piece by Jorge Argueta that expresses gratitude for for nature and life. We started off by discussing some of the things that we’re grateful for in our own lives, all things, big and small. Then we worked on a brainstorm that got students thinking about how many things we can express gratitude for in our lives. Things in nature, people, basic necessities, family and other relationships. There were so many things that poets honored in their poems, I hope you enjoy this week’s published pieces!

Dear Creator

I thank you for

the beautiful things I

can see with my eyes.

The eyes that

you made so

that we could see.

The wonderful nature

like the big and small

creatures. The

water and fire. The

color of our eyes.

like

blue,

green,

light brown

hazel that lights

up in the sun. I thank

you for the eyes so that

we can see what everybody

else sees, the good and bad. The

beautiful eyes that you created like

the gorgeous eyelashes so that the

eyes look even more pretty, even though they

still look pretty.

Thank you for eyes.

who take care of me when I am feeling

I am happy for the food and bed thay

I’m happy that art brings me

joy when I am sad.

I’m happy for the fresh grass that

grows, flowers and trees.

I’m happy when I see my little

sibling smiling with joy in and

outside of them.

I’m happy when my grandma provides

delicious food for me and my little sister.
