Feliz Navidad! Celebrating the holidays and poetry!

This week on Wednesday was Twain 4th graders last day of poetry for 2025. We’ve had 10 weeks of fun writing poems. To celebrate, I gave students bookmarks and colorful ribbons to decorate. I told students they could decorate their bookmarks inspired by favorite lines from their own poems, a classmate’s poem, or come up with a new poem on the spot. Many students chose winter and holiday themes for their bookmarks.

We listened to music from a playlist students helped me create. Then we watched video clips from the previous Winter’s All Schools Readings. Those who participated from Twain last year, felt like celebrities. After drawing unique designs on their bookmarks, students had a chance to read parts of their poems, say something silly, or share a sweet message on my little blue microphone and speaker.

I was surprised with a gift from 4th grade teachers and cards from students. I even had one student make me a bookmark. It felt so wonderful feeling appreciated. Below are photos of artwork from students, with bookmarks from each class. There were so many fantastic bookmarks, I wish I could have included all of them.

Happy Holidays Twain 4th graders and keep writing poetry!
