Feeling Like an Animal

For week twelve, our Burbank poets studied Francisco X. Alarcon’s “On Monday I Feel Like a Dragon / El lunes me siento como un dragón” in both English and Spanish. We analyzed how the poet compared how he feels on each day of the week to different animals: “Monday afternoon / I’m a wild porcupine / in real bad humor” was a favorite of the students. Then students composed poems where they chose a day of the week to write about in this same way. The results were marvelous! Thanks to Chasity Gunn for creating the lesson this week’s prompt is built off of.
