Don’t Go into the Waters!

Today we started one of the favorite lessons for middle schoolers. The fear lesson! The Poets from Waters Elementary School read and discussed The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert service and Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. We dissected the elements of story structure and what makes for a good scary poem, in addition to emphasizing the usual literary devices like similes and metaphors and rhyme. The poet’s discussed what scares them for our brainstorming activity to create ingredients for their stories. For this lesson the poets will work in groups of two or three or as individuals. Stay tuned!
