‘Do you ever just want to go/to a valley full of flowers?’: Meditaiton Poems

Students participated in a 10-minute creative writing meditation and breathing exercise. After the meditation, they were asked to write whatever came to mind. Classwork was conducted in silence. Daydreaming and even boredom were encouraged! Most poems will be presented without titles.

Lesson Note: ‘Boredom heightens daydreaming because moments of boredom resemble sleep. Each inhale and exhale become part of the experience. The Meditation Margarito Z.

I started thinking about when I first started
baseball. I still remember what team I was on and I know who was on my team. At
this point, I don’t even know what to write
about. When we were meditating I felt some
type of way but I can’t explain it.

It felt really relaxed and my mind at the moment is
all about school and my mind is off of every direction.
Also, when I had my head down I thought about my
family and how I need to buckle down in school and
not worry about anything else. Or else how I’m looking right
now I might have to go to summer school and it is not
what I want.

Something we take granted.
Do you ever just want to go
to a valley full of flowers?
Smell the aroma of the flowers
and admire the beautiful colors.
With a beautiful sunset to top it
all off.
Nature
Something we take for granted
or don’t just appreciate it as
much as we need to.
And then it starts raining as
your walking home but can’t
stop yourself from jumping in
the puddles realizing you’re not
5 anymore but not caring who’s
around because nature is simply
beautiful.

Orange skies.
Blue snow coming down like heaven sent a gift from above.
Swimming deer and running fish
People in cages, eating dried meat and old bamboo.
oceans with water thicker than Jello.
Heavy winds demolishing buildings and flipping over
old, rusted cars.

When I close my eyes I see a painting
of a horse and a dog in a forest interacting
with birds chirping.
They’re enjoying the freedom that they have and enjoying
how peaceful their lives are.

My Future Ulises A.

When I close my eyes I see myself playing
in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls, getting
my name announced by the commentators, and
the home crowd going crazy. I also see myself
enjoying my life, going to a good
college. When I close my eyes, I
see myself knocking down the game-winning
shot of the 2025 NBA Finals
in game 7, like MJ.

When I close my eyes I see
a beautiful summer day.
My family in the backyard
Me and my cousins in
the pool swimming
the dogs running around playing
The night time we all are dried
up sitting next to the
bonfire with the dogs
lying down sleeping all
bunched up
then we all go to sleep.
With the dogs sleeping with us by the fire.
Staying warm all night.
