Description all around us

In Ms Carteno’s 6th grade classes, we read Ariel Francisco’s “Along the East River and in the Bronx Young Men were Singing” and wrote poems using sensory details to describe places that we love and that are important to us.

Ms. Carteno 6th Grade

In New Mexico Grace

I see mountains

I hear crickets

I smell Mexican food

I taste tamales

I touch cactus

At Dave and Buster's

I see kids running around, prizes

I hear game sounds, kids yelling

I smell food and air

I taste cake and cupcakes

I touch video games, pries, food, drinks

Downtown Andreya

I see the street filled with cars

I hear the sirens and the traffic

I smell the coffee of Starbucks

I taste the ice cream from the shop

I touch the tall cold buildings

At Wing Stop Jayden

I can see broken airplane parts

I can hear people talk about their jobs

I can smell fresh wings

I can taste the hot wings

I can touch the good ranch
