Creating Couplets

The poets from West Park Academy became rappers! Today we studied rhyming. After studying lyrics by Tupac Shakur and Bad Bunny we discussed how couplets are on one of the used forms of rhyming in rap music. With a partner, they were tasked with creating their own series of couplets. Enjoy!

7th Grade

by Damarion W. and Khamari

You are so smart
Khamari ate a pop tart
It is getting really dark
You are fireworks the way you spark
Your voice makes my heart beat faster
But when I don’t hear it in my heart I’m a disaster

by Jada N. and Elijah C.

Jayda, you are a star
Elijah, you can get so far
Jayda, you are as funny as a clown
Elijah, you keep me from getting down
Jayda, you are like a flower
Elijah, I could stare at you for hours
Jayda, you are like the moon
Elijah, you make me bloom

by Yahaira T. and Guadalupe M.

Eres como un milagro
Lllena de brillo
Llena de diversion
Brincando con conclusion
Bailas feliz la bachata
Tomando horchata
Conectando en las redes
Viendo a los peces
Tu miranda linda
Tan bonita

by Nely and Cloie

Your so smart
Like the ocean mar
You have a heart
And it’s so sparked
You’re special
So I need to be gentle
Your name
Can never be shame

by Carlos, Alexander, and Jesus

Me peirdo en tus fotos
Y contigo lo disfruto
En tus islas me diverto
En el concierto
En el lago me conjelo
No soy menzo

by Briseida M. and Yareli A.

You are calm as the wind
You are a good friend
You are kind as a bird
You preferred not be to heard
You bright as the ocean
You can’t be broken
You are so powerful as the sun
You can’t be outrun by anyone
