Concrete Poetry

This week was all about concrete poetry, which is poetry that forms the shape of something on the page with words, like visual poetry. We read “Whenever you see a tree” by Padma Vankatraman, talked about the lovely imagery of a seed growing into a tree in the poem, and then read one more concrete poem called “Concrete Cat” by Gemma Lovewell. That poem was all about a cat stepping in wet cement and leaving its pawprint cast in the concrete forever! After reminding each other that writing poetry includes using sensory details like sound, touch, sight, taste, and smell, everyone got to work on their own version of a concrete poem!
