Collaborative Creativity

Last week Shoesmith 4th graders read Kwame Alexander’s How to Write a Poem, and then worked collaboratively to create poems inspired by our discussions.

Roaring into Poetry Class

Let words dance with joy
not with fear, be brave
for your bravery can fight fear
like a lion fighting prey
rrrooarring into action

rrrooarring into the sun getting
hotter and brighter
like a flashlight in a dark forest
showing every single sleeping bat
in a black cave

the words show everyone where to go
onto a road of blazing pencils
that are sharp than 1000 knives

Let words dance with joy
wiggle wiggle wiggle
stomping and clapping with alliteration,
repetition, and personification
