Caught Some Cooties

Hale’s 6-8th grade poetry club has had a week packed with activities and pleasant surprises. This week, we welcomed two new members into our club. They jumped right in and added some humor and clever words to our group. On Tuesday, students finished up their group poem and practiced hard to prepare for the Hale Hawk Assembly. On Wednesday, we took a nostalgic trip to the world of cootie catchers with the help of poet Leila Chatti. Using her Cootie Catcher poem template, students crafted some imaginative poem lines with the help of their peers. On Wednesday, we winded down and created our own cootie catchers, leading to some very interesting fortunes. Check out some of our poems and cootie catchers below:

Yeya R.

Blueblack phantom shadow of the moon knowing what it knows

Milkwhite storm dream you emerge from, changed

Lilac joy hour vanishes the trees

Golden wave sadness days and days and days

Danny

Golden joy shadow through your window of spring

Lilac storm phantom, a seam of light briefly

Milkwhite dream, vanishes in the trees

Golden hour, days and days and days

Lilac shadow vanishes in the trees
